International student visa applications
The Australian Government has made changes to student visa applications, renewals and post-study work rights. So, what does that mean for students who are currently enrolled or thinking about studying in Queensland?
For international students who want to study in Queensland
The Government has directed offshore locations to recommence assessing student visa applications. Australia’s containment of COVID-19 has become globally recognised. Queensland, itself, is one of Australia’s best performing regions in stopping the spread of COVID-19. If you’re considering studying in Queensland, you can now make your visa applications so you can come here when international travel resumes.
For students whose studies have been interrupted by COVID-19
The health and safety of students, like all Queenslanders, has been the top priority during COVID-19. In stopping the spread of the COVID-19, some students’ studies have been disrupted. If you have been unable to complete your studies because of COVID-19 and your visa has expired, you can now lodge a further student visa application free of charge if you meet the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs requirements.
For students who intended on using their post-study work rights
If you’re enrolled in a Queensland education and training institution and hold a current student visa, but studying online from your home country because of COVID-19, you can still count your online studies toward post-study work. Queensland is a popular global study destination because of its world-class teaching institutions, incredible natural experiences and welcoming culture. But its post-study opportunities are also world-class. From robotics in Brisbane city to tourism at the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland offers unmatched post-study employment opportunities for students.
Graduates who are unable to return to Australia due to COVID-19
If you had plans to return to Australia after completing your studies, you will be eligible to apply for a post-study work visa outside Australia. When travel resumes, we’ll be here to welcome you back to Queensland.
For students needing to provide English-language results
COVID-19 has disrupted English language assessments which are a requirement of studying in Australia. Additional time will be given for applicants to provide English language results where COVID-19 has disrupted access to these services.
